    Coronavirus Update

    Brothers and Sisters,

I'm sure you are all aware that this has now been declared a national state of emergency by President Trump as well as a public health emergency by Governor Kemp. Essential services like electrical utilities could be asked or told to do some things that are out of the ordinary. All of us will have to be flexible as we work our way out of this pandemic. Things like rescheduling, isolating different departments from each other, and possibly sequestering may all be on the table. Local 84 staff will be in constant contact with Company officials during this process. I just want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take as many precautions as possible to keep yourself and your familles and co-workers healthy. As a precaution, Local 84 is postponing all unit meetings and any other group meeting until further notice. The office will also be closed to everyone except staff. Please utilize electronic communication with us for anything you need. We will be available by cell phone or email throughout this time. V.P. Thompson has scheduled a conference call with all the business managers in the 5th district on 3/17, and we will post any updates on this site.

IBEW members have risen to the occasion for every other emergency that has come our way in the past and we will take care of business this time also. We will demonstrate to our employers and the public just how much we are worth to them. Stay safe and let us know how we can assist.

    In Solidarity,

    Drew Stover

Check the message board for more updates as we get them.

    Pandemic Update 3/22/20

    Brothers and Sisters,

It appears that we will be in this situation for a while. Cases are continuing to rise as are the deaths related to this virus. Please keep the families who have lost loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. As I said in the letter last week, we could be asked to do some unusual things and a lot of those things took place throughout the week. This is still a fluid situation that could require some further changes to how we work. So far, all utilities where our members are employed have implemented new schedules to keep crews separated from each other. Some are working or standing by at night to avoid mixing crews on call-outs and maintaining social distancing, while some are showing up at locations other than the headquarters. This is not exclusive to Georgia. We learned on the conference call with Vice President Thompson last week that utilities nationwide are doing a lot of the same things. The Electrical Utility Industry is required to have pandemic plans, and fortunately for us, the IBEW  gets to be involved in the discussions with our employers. Local 84 staff and many of our officers and stewards will have conference calls with management this week to talk through issues. I expect us to have more involvement going forward because we have shown a desire to partner with our employers to work through this crisis together. We have another conference call with the IBEW 5th district for outside construction on Tuesday and will continue to post updates on the message board.

The most important thing for all of us is to be our Brothers & Sisters keeper and work safely. Please follow all rules and procedures and take all precautions possible to keep one another and your families safe and healthy. We will get through this and be stronger for it, on the job and the bargaining table. God Bless.

    In Solidarity,

    Drew Stover
